Grant Writing Seminar to Aid Local Government, Nonprofit Organizations, Lawmakers Say

Local government officials and leaders of community nonprofit organizations are invited to one of two grant writing seminars in November.

The seminars are sponsored by the Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau and organized by Penn State Cooperative Extension, and Reps. Fred Keller (R-Snyder/Union), Garth Everett (R-Lycoming) and Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Northumberland/Snyder). They are scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, 90 Lawton Lane, Milton.
  • Friday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Middlecreek Area Community Center, 67 Elm St., Beaver Springs.
The seminars are open to staff, volunteers and board members of community nonprofits, local governments and other community organizations. To accommodate as many organizations as possible, attendance is limited to two people per organization.

Attendees will learn about:
  • Assessing grant options and opportunities.
  • Building relationships with foundations and funders.
  • Maximizing grant search efforts.
  • Identifying the components of an effective proposal.
  • Understanding how proposals are reviewed.
  • Measuring and showing results.
There is no charge to attend. Visitors Bureau members, Pronto and Rayauda’s, will be serving lunch at the CSIU and MACC events respectively.
