Natural Gas Impact Fee Supports Grant for East Snyder Park Playground
MIFFLINBURG – Rep. Fred Keller (Snyder/Union) today announced a grant of $234,332 has been awarded to Penn Township, Snyder County, for construction of an all-inclusive, non-barrier playground.

The grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program, which is funded by impact fees assessed on natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale.

“This is another way natural gas impact fees, that are unique to Pennsylvania, are benefitting our communities,” Keller said. “I was pleased to support this project that ensures all children, regardless of the challenges they may face, have access to a playground that meets their needs.”

The project is located in East Snyder Park and is designed to be a physical, sensory and social recreation area for the county. When completed, this will be the only all-inclusive park in the Commonwealth that will provide recreation activities to children despite any disabilities.

The playground will include equipment that focuses on physical, sensory and social stimuli that are beneficial for development. The project also includes plans for physical, tactile, auditory/visual processing and quiet areas for children with sensory or social developmental delays.
